As the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic continues to impact us all, we here at Macho Spouse want to point male military spouses and their families to information they need to navigate this time.

What is Coronavirus

The Johns Hopkins Medicine website has this about Coronavirus - what it it is, how it started, how it spreads, and other importanit information.

Coronaviruses are a type of virus. There are many different kinds, and some cause disease. A coronavirus identified in 2019, SARS-CoV-2, has caused a pandemic of respiratory illness, called COVID-19.

Take Steps to Slow the Coronavirus

As vaccines become more widely available, it's important to keep taking steps to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Limit gatherings with others.

Practice social distancing.

Wash your hands frequently.

Wear a mask in public.

Where to get COVID-19 information

Male military spouses should check with their active duty spouses for information about COVID-19. The active duty spouse will have information directly from the military base/installation (DoD).

The National Military Family Association has a page on what military families need to know about COVID-19. This page has info on everything from travel restrictions to tax day changes.

Also, be sure to check Military Onesource for COVID-19 information.

What you should know about the COVID-19 vaccines

As the COVID-19 vaccine becomes more available, here's what you should know:

If you get one of the COVID-19 vaccines that require 2 doses, make sure to schedule your second dose when you receive your first dose.

For male military spouses who have Medicare and Tricare: Medicare is the primary insurance provider for off-installation services, with Tricare as the secondary provider. Medicare covers the COVID-19 vaccine, so there will be no cost to you.

Look for updates from your state and local officials as more doses of the vaccine become available for additional priority groups.

Visit CDC.gov for additional trustworthy information on the COVID-19 vaccines. See Key Things to Know About COVID-19 Vaccines.

We are all still learning about COVID-19

As experts, DoD and scientists continue their work, we are all still learning about COVID-19.

Stay well informed and with the resources above and practice the safety measures to protect you and your family.
